Susan Nardi

According to Susan Nardi, MTM Level IV Professional Clinician/Tester”. “I have said this many times and it still holds true: there would be more people playing tennis at a much higher level worldwide if the powers that be had listened to Oscar a long time ago. Tennis would be the #1 sport in the world.  There is still so much the 'normal' teaching pro needs to learn.

Susan has the distinction of being a certified pro/tester for the USPTA, PTR and MTMCA, holding the hightest level given to MTM coaches. In 2018 Susan returned to Southern California where she has taught tennis for many years. She is currently Director of Junior Tennis at the historic Griffin Club (formerly the Beverly Hills Country Club).

Prior to her return to L.A. Susan worked with Oscar Wegner at the USTA award-winning McMullen Tennis Center in Clearwater, Florida. She has also previously worked with fellow MTM Level IV Pro/Tester Russell Grogan, Program Director for Nexx Player Tennis Academy, and continues her collaboation with the Academy. She has held numerous tennis coaching positions over the years, too numerous to mention.

Susan hails from Virginia, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure services from Radford University. A 30-year veteran coach, she is considered one of the most innovative and dynamic tennis professionals in the United States. A “coaster,” Susan relocated to Texas in 2010 after coaching in both Virginia and California.

Susan enjoys coaching players at all ages and all skill levels. Her philosophy is to keep coaching simple, to focus on the player’s goals and needs. Recognizing that learning styles differ from player to player, she determines a student’s preferred learning style and tailors her training program accordingly.

For players 10 and under, Susan created the internationally-acclaimed Mommy, Daddy and Me Tennis™ program. At the high school level, she led the Capistrano Valley High School (Mission Viejo, California.) girls’ tennis team to a top 20 national ranking in 1999-2000 while helping several of her players earn positions with major college tennis programs. She has also coached college teams at Division 1, 3 and community levels. Susan has also coached numerous ladies’ teams to league and division championships at every level. She is the first woman to coach a team at the Armed Services Tennis Cup.

Susan’s credentials are equal to her coaching experience. She is certified as a Level 1 Professional with the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), the highest level of national certification achievable. She is the only person worldwide to be a national tester and clinician for all three of the tennis industry’s professional organizations: USPTA, Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and Modern Tennis Methodology.

Susan has received numerous professional awards, including California Division Community Services Award 2008 and the USPTA High School Coach of the Year 2000.  In 2002, the PTR recognized her as California Member of the Year. Head Penn Racquet Sports named Susan Advisory Staff Professional of the Year in 2008 and is the 2017 MTMCA Coach of the Year.
