Chuck Tomlin

In high school/middle school Chuck lettered in every offered sport except golf, with a special interest in football, playing all special teams, and a starter on offense and defense with

All-State honors and multiple college scholarship offers. He captained and played #1 position for his high school tennis team. He also started martial arts study at this time.

Chuck went on to play football at Auburn University with many future All-Pro players, making varsity as a freshman.  While training in rehab for injuries that would force him out of football, Chuck met Bill Kazmaier, 3-time World's Strongest Man and 3-time world powerlifting champion.  He  later managed the men's side of Kazmair’s gym and trained with him.  Chuck also competed in triathlons and continued with martial arts while at Auburn.

After college, Chuck entered Naval Flight Training in Pensacola FL, then on to his first naval air base at Jacksonville FL as an Aircraft/Mission Commander.  He taught martial arts classes on the Carrier USS Forrestal.  His second assignment was at Naval Air Test Pilot Center as a C-12 Natops Instructor, Program Manager, and Search and Rescue Pilot/Instructor, then on to serve as the CRM Director/Instructor for Test Pilot Center.  He also became a black belt instructor in a second style of martial arts

Chuck got back into tennis and trained with an Emory University Hall of Fame instructor, played on and captained several ALTA & USTA championship teams, studied traditional tennis techniques and received his USPTA certification.  He did strategy and tactics work with some players that later went on to be top national players, and worked with a USTA high performance players program in Chicago IL.    Chuck was also tennis coach for Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, GA for their 1st ever Final 4 in any sport.

In 2009 Chuck discovered Modern Tennis Methodology and earned his certification as a Level 4 Tester/Clinician.  He taught private lessons and coached his first 2 children to Division 1 Scholarships (see below).  He has written articles on tennis tactics and developed a unique charting system that supports his instructional approach as well as smart target strategies.

Chuck is starting 2012 with a new position as Tennis Director for The City of Tyrone, GA.

Under his tutelage, Chuck’s oldest son James played tennis in the #1 position for all 4 years, served as Captain for all 4 years, was voted MVP all 4 years, and helped serve as Assistant Coach as well.  He started and Lettered for 4 years at D-1 Air Force Academy and was selected to return as Assistant Tennis Coach after graduation, before going to Air Force Jet Training to be a pilot.

Chuck’s daughter Kelly focused on basketball, volleyball and horseback riding as a youngster, but then as a high school freshman decided to play tennis.  Repeating his success as a parent/coach, Chuck helped his daughter go on to start as her high school’s #1 player for 4 years, earning Most Improved and MVP honors each year, along with playing a year and a half in the 16s.  Moving up over 200 ranking spots in 6 months she earned her D-1 Tennis Scholarship at Jax State University as the only American girl on her conference championship team as a Junior.

Chuck’s youngest son Alex is starting to play more junior tennis events, but is also involved in other sports including basketball, baseball, track, CrossFit, and Enduro motorcycle riding.  He has learned Modern Tennis Methodology nearly from the start.
