MTMCA Certification
MTMCA is an association of tennis coaches who have demonstrated competence in understanding and delivering Modern Tennis Methodology via study and testing, resulting in certification overseen by its originator, Oscar Wegner.
It would be impossible to hold all tennis coaches to a verifiable, global standard of competence, given there are 1.2 billion fans, 87 million players and an estimated 164,000 tennis coaches worldwide. While tennis governing bodies around the world have sought to improve the standard of quality in recent years, random, inconsistent and contradictory methods of learning the art of coaching have left much to be desired in the tennis teaching industry.
MTMCA has for 2 decades sought to bridge the gap between complicated teaching modalities that make tennis difficult and a simple yet effective means of delivering reliable tennis instruction to the public.
In that spirit MTM-U launched a new certification process in 2022 to better ensure that the material developed by Oscar Wegner is competently presented. It is this program’s goal to inspire coaches to learn, understand and apply exactly as prescribed, the method of teaching tennis that has proven so successful around the world for generations of players and coaches alike.
Coaches are invited to become MTM-certified in the following categories:
Level I Teacher
Entry-level tennis coach training
Individual with some playing and or teaching experience (6 months minimum incl. assisting in school, park, club or equivalent); team captain or school teacher with some on-court experience.
Requirements: Has passed the Coaching Beginniers Competency Test. Resume, video* and on-court workshop with Level III or Level IV Coach demonstrating ability to deliver the methodology to beginning students.
Certificate will read: “(name) is certified in the Basics of MTM as an MTM Tennis Teacher”.
Qualifies for continuing to next level.
*(video submission facilitates assessment of candidate’s ability to handle basic coaching situations)
Level II Teaching Pro
Individual who has solid professional coaching experience
Requirements: Has passed the Coaching Beginners and Intermediate Players Competency Tests. Resume, video** and clinic with Clinician/Tester or Oscar Wegner demonstrating ability to deliver the methodology to intermediate students. This candidate is or has been engaged professionally as a tennis instructor.
Certificate will read: “(name) is certified as an MTM Tennis Teaching Professional”.
This status prepares the member for a higher level of coaching performance which may be obtained by continuing education in the future.

Level III Advanced Teaching Pro
High-performance junior and adult professional coaching experience
For coaches already MTM certified at Level II, Advanced Certification Level III (Advanced Tennis Teaching Professional) comprises all 7 of the required certification study courses as well as final on-court or video exam and consultation with Oscar Wegner.
This status prepares the member for delivering MTM at the high-performance level and for future Level IV ranking, the highest level of MTM coaching competence. This advanced certification level qualifies coaches to deliver MTMCA player clinics.
Level IV Pro Clinician/Tester
The pinnacle of MTMCA certification training
The Level IV certification status authorizes delivery of player and MTM coach certification training clinics. Level IV is not currently available, as it represents only those coaches who have had extensive past personal training with Oscar Wegner himself.
